Here’s the promised tutorial for the hair clip holder I showed yesterday. If you’re tired of drawers full of misplaced hair bows and clips, this simple project will organize them while providing a charming wall display.
This is the finished holder again for reference:

Below are the steps to make your own. I apologize for missing photos of a couple steps — sometimes I get excited to finish and forget the camera!
Dollar Store Hair Bow Holder Tutorial
I began with a simple wall hook purchased at the dollar store. It’s an inexpensive base that works perfectly for this project.

First, give the hook a light coat of spray paint primer and let it dry. Once the primer is set, spray two light coats of black paint, paying attention to the sides and the hook. The front will be covered with paper or another decorative layer, so focus on thorough coverage of the exposed areas.

The hook came with an adhesive back, but to avoid risking wall damage I used an alternative hanging method. I grabbed a fabric hanger (also from the dollar store). They come in packs and provide a convenient sticky backing for mounting.

I removed the hook portion from the fabric hanger and peeled off the protective tape from both sticky backs. Press the two adhesive sides firmly together so the hanger backing is attached to the painted hook. Removing the hook segment was the trickiest part, but it’s straightforward with patience.

Next cut a length of ribbon about a yard long—grosgrain works well, but any sturdy ribbon is fine. Seal the ends with heat (a candle flame works) to prevent fraying. Attach the top of the ribbon to the back of the hook with hot glue so the ribbon hangs neatly down the front.

Now customize the front to your taste. I cut a piece of scrapbook paper to fit and adhered it with Mod Podge, then lightly distressed the edges with black ink. A vinyl monogram was added for a personal touch. Alternatives include stickers, wooden letters, foam shapes, stencils, or even a fabric flower—choose what complements your space.
