Step through Epic Universe’s Isle of Berk portal and you’ll find the quick-service spot Spit Fyre Grill, serving grilled meats, roasted vegetables, and the well-known mac & cheese bread cones.

On our recent visit to Epic Universe, my friend (who prefers to be called Mr. Grump) and I stopped by Spit Fyre Grill to see what it offers.
This review covers our impressions and practical details to help you plan your own visit.
Location & Atmosphere:

Enter the Isle of Berk and take the right-hand path to find this outdoor quick-service venue. If you spot an ice dragon, you’ve gone slightly too far—just step back a few paces.
The exterior evokes a Viking village, with carved wood details and a wooden dragon perched atop the awning. There are four walk-up windows for ordering and mobile pickup beneath it.

Seating is located across the path in a large covered outdoor dining area with wooden tables and benches. The pavilion sits beside the Fyre Drill water ride, so you can watch the boats pass while you eat.
During our visit, seating was easy to find—about half of the tables were occupied and characters like Ruffnut and Tuffnut occasionally wandered through the dining area, entertaining guests.
The Menu:
Spit Fyre Grill focuses on grilled meat bowls—options include steak, shrimp, chicken, and a vegan alternative. Each bowl comes with roasted vegetables and a choice of rice and/or salad.

Allergen information is listed under menu items online, and team members can provide an allergy guide. For severe allergies, inform a staff member so they can accommodate you; some locations have an allergy chef who prepares food in a separate area.
A highlight of the menu is the mac & cheese bread cones: French bread hollowed out, coated in garlic butter, and filled with mac & cheese plus toppings. They’re indulgent and popular with guests.

The drink selection includes a few beers and wines, along with classic Coke products and bottled water.
Note: The photos here show a selection of popular items and not the full menu. For the most up-to-date offerings, check the official menu before your visit.
Service & Ordering:
Ordering is primarily handled through the Universal Orlando app. You can place your order, note dietary restrictions or allergies, and pay via the app.
When you arrive, select “I’m Here” in the app. You’ll receive a notification when your order is ready, including a pickup window number and confirmation to retrieve your meal.
Seating is self-serve under the covered pavilion across from the order windows. Utensil and napkin stations are distributed throughout the dining area for convenience.
What We Ordered:
I chose Stoick’s Steak Bowl: sticky rice, tenderloin steak, roasted balsamic mushrooms, sweet potato hash, manchego cheese, and horseradish sauce ($19). For a drink, I ordered Gobber’s Mead, a boysenberry-blackcurrant mead with vanilla and spice ($14).

The mead is sweet and reminiscent of grape juice, with light spice and vanilla notes. The pour is modest for the price, but it’s pleasant and easy to drink.
The steak bowl was substantial—big enough to serve as a full meal for one. The steak was slightly overcooked, which is common in quick-service settings, but it remained tender rather than rubbery.
The rice was simple long-grain white rice seasoned with garlic butter and a slightly sticky texture that I enjoyed. Sautéed onions and balsamic mushrooms provided a savory, tangy complement to the steak.
Roasted sweet potatoes were mashed and lightly salted, a favorite element I’ve even tried to recreate at home. The horseradish sauce delivered a mild, breath-clearing heat rather than strong spice.
Overall the bowl was well-balanced and filling. It wasn’t my top meal in the park, but it’s a reliable choice when you want something hearty with meat and vegetables.

Mr. and Mrs. Grump ordered two of the famous mac & cheese bread cones:
- Classic Mac & Cheese
- Dragon Fire Chicken Spire: mac & cheese topped with Nashville-style pulled chicken and spicy accoutrements.
The cones are halves of French bread hollowed out, brushed with garlic butter, and filled with mac & cheese. The pasta has a cafeteria-style texture—large noodles and a thicker, slightly set cheese rather than a creamy sauce. Flavor is mild on its own.
The Classic version includes Goldfish crackers for crunch. The Dragon Fire Chicken Spire adds spicy chicken, hot honey, Calabrian peppers, chimichurri, and crispy onions. The toppings brought heat and bold flavor without overwhelming the dish, and our group agreed the Dragon Fire version was the favorite.
Would we order the cones again? Possibly—especially to introduce them to friends who haven’t tried them. They are quite heavy, so you might prefer to wait before boarding an intense ride afterward.
Know Before You Go:
- No reservations required. Spit Fyre Grill is quick-service.
