7 Layer Flag Dip for 4th of July
If you’re headed to an Independence Day party, this dip is an easy recipe to bring that will get noticed. It resembles the American flag with red tomato stripes, white sour-cream stripes, and a blue chip square with cheese “stars.” Guests always ask how you made it—and it tastes as good as it looks.

Making Your Flag Dip
- Start by layering classic 7-layer dip components: seasoned refried beans, salsa, olives, shredded lettuce and shredded cheese.
- Next, prepare the decorative flag elements: a cream cheese/sour cream mixture for the white stripes and diced tomatoes for the red stripes.

- The blue canton of the flag is created by crushing blue corn tortilla chips into a square. Small rounds cut from provolone (or a similar cheese) serve as the stars.
- To cut the tiny cheese circles, an upside-down small icing tip works great as a mini cookie cutter.
- This dip is easy to assemble, makes a festive statement, and is ideal to take to any July 4th celebration.

Ingredients
- 1 Can Refried Beans
- 1 Packet Taco Seasoning
- 8 oz Sour Cream
- 8 oz Cream Cheese
- 2 Cups Shredded Cheese
- 1 Bag Shredded Lettuce
- Black Olives
- 1 Jar Salsa
- 1 Large Tomato, chopped
- Blue Corn Chips
- 1 Slice Provolone Cheese
Instructions
- Directions:
- Mix the can of refried beans with the taco seasoning.
- Spread the seasoned beans evenly in the bottom of a 9×13 glass pan.
- Spread the jar of salsa as the next layer.
- Sprinkle sliced or chopped black olives over the salsa.
- Add the shredded lettuce as the next layer.
- Top with the shredded cheese layer.
For the blue square (top left corner)
- Mix the sour cream and cream cheese until smooth.
- Spread about half of the mixture into a square in the top-left corner of the pan.
- Crush blue corn chips and sprinkle them over the sour-cream square.
- Cut small circles from the provolone slice and place them on the crushed chips to resemble stars. An upside-down small icing tip works well for cutting the circles.
For the flag stripes
- Place the remaining sour cream and cream cheese mixture into a piping bag or plastic bag and snip off a small corner.
- Pipe six horizontal white stripes across the cheese layer to form the white stripes of the flag.
- Fill the spaces between the white stripes with diced tomatoes to create the red stripes.
